After years of writing, producing, and learning from my mistakes, I'm releasing my debut single, "Human," on December 1st! I'm so happy to be sharing this with you all. I wrote this song almost a year ago during the pandemic. I wrote it as an outlet for how I was feeling about things and about myself.
I can be a perfectionist to a fault sometimes. It gets to the point where I overanalyze every mistake I make, big and small. I'm not expected to be perfect from others, and I don't expect others to be either. So, I shouldn't seek perfection from myself. This song is about realizing that.
Before I wrote the lyrics, I had the music. I have several beats on my computer. Some of which you can hear samples of on the music page of my site. I used this one before on another song, but I thought it could be used for something more meaningful. Once I had everything written and recorded, then came the actual work. While I'd been producing for a while, I didn't know much about engineering. I started learning last year when I wrote my first blog, "My Journey to: Becoming a Master."
So, I didn't know how to properly mix and master a song. I took lessons to learn. I watched videos. I even bought a plugin to help hear it better because I don't have studio monitors. But it wasn't working. I reached out to producer friends who gave me suggestions to make it better. But ultimately, I had to pay someone to mix it. I tried a few engineers out before finding a great one on Fiverr.
Once I had my song together, I registered it with BMI, with the copyright office, and set it up through CD baby. Before releasing music, you should know about all the different royalties and how to get them. I wanted to be sure I was able to collect.
It's hard to believe it, but my music is actually going to be on Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, and all other major music platforms. Just for this one song is a dream come true for me. I have others coming out after, as well as an album of the same name. But for now, make sure you go to listen to "Human" on December 1st!
