Mercedes Coleman
Mercedes is an Alternative R&B singer, songwriter, and producer from Philadelphia. She pulls influence from the production styles of Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, Timberland, and Quincy Jones, while breaking the silence on the innermost thoughts of those who think they are alone. Last year, she created a YouTube show about music production. It is a 7-part series called Producing: From one Student to Another. In this show, she talks about learning useful features in FL Studio, tries new things for the first time - like using a vocoder, and offers advice on how to grow as a producer.
Her love for music started when she was little. Growing up, her dad had four towering speakers in the corners of their living room to blast music through all day. The songs reached every room of the house clearly, and she could sing along at the top of her lungs. He would play artists like CeCe Winans, Sade, and Carlos Santana. Every thought and feeling she had became attached to a song or tune, and now she wants to give people a similar experience.
Her latest single, "Trust," was released on October 15th. It's a song about learning how to trust someone after putting walls up from hurt. Mercedes will be performing as a featured artist at Dobbs on South on 12/28.
